Coney Island

We visited Coney Island on Saturday, eating at Nathan's hotdogs, strolling the boardwalk and visiting the New York Aquarium. Despite the heat and humidity that has seemed to linger here for weeks now, we had a really good time. Coney Island is an easy subway ride from Bay Ridge. (Sam really was having a good time - despite the expression on his face in the photo above. And yes, Sam has a thick layer of sunscreen on!)

Speed Demon Sam

Sam inherited a set of wheels when his pals Rory and Cameryn left for England earlier this week. He has really enjoyed the speed....

4th of July Weekend

We traveled upstate over the holiday weekend to visit Grandma Barb. We left on Saturday, renting a car in White Plains and making the trip to Corning. It was a wonderful weekend. Barb had moved since we had last been upstate. Her new home is a spacious retreat in the woods.

Sam loved his new surroundings, which included a new kiddie pool. Sam went for his first swim!

Prospect Park Zoo

Sam and I joined Anne, Rory and Cameryn (they leave for the UK on the 12th) today at the Prospect Park Zoo after a picnic in the magnificent park.

The zoo, which is small, doesn't have any of the big animals, such as elephants or lions, but Sam saw all sorts of animals for the first time, including sheep, a cow, seal lions and baboons -- his favorite. When he saw the baboons, he squealed with glee!

We hope to venture up to the Bronx Zoo later this summer to see the big animals.

The pictures didn't turn out too well, and yes, Sam should wear a hat in the sun, but he refuses to do so....
