We went to IKEA. It was a first for both of us, and frankly, we are scared to go back. We were warned by friends and co-workers that it would be daunting, especially if you went on a Saturday or Sunday. Well, we went on Sunday. People, people everywhere.
We got lost, trying to work the maze of mock homes, and we didn't really understand how it worked. We were purchasing a baker's rack and new bookcases, which were 'self-serve.'
We managed. Got what we want, only to rush out, wondering what had just happened.
Is IKEA like sex? The first time is horrible, and it only gets better? And pretty soon you can't go a few days or more than a week without it?
Please let us know. We want to go back but keep thinking of the first time.

The Move
This move by far was the most trying of moves, and Dave and I have moved a lot....
Dave hadn't been feeling well, and he only got worse. He became nauseous and even lost his dinner on Saturday. It was the full-blown flu.
Thank goodness, Dave's mom was there to help us with the move.
On Sunday, we entered the world of U-Haul hell. We had resevered a truck for 10 a.m. We went to the pick up location only to discover several other anxious movers waiting outside. No one showed up for work at the U-Haul place, which was suppose to open at 9 a.m. Various people waiting to pick up trucks made calls, trying to find a manager, but no luck came of it. When others started making arrangements at other locations, I got on the phone and found us another U-Haul truck. So, we went and got it.
Once back at the Glastonbury apartment, we put the truck up on the sidewalk closest to the door. It wasn't quite perfect, so Dave went to try and rearrange it, but the truck wouldn't start! So, we tried to jump it, which didn't work. I made a call to U-Haul, which promised a mechanic in an hour.
During that time, the landlord of the complex called to say we must move the truck from the sidewalk. We did have to go over grass to get the truck where it was. They were concerned that we ruined their grass. I told them we couldn't move the truck because it was dead.
Anyways, after 90 minutes, - not the hour as promised- a U-Haul mechanic arrived and was able to fix the truck.
We manged to get it loaded (we left the truck on the sidewalk) and down to the new place.
Dave did well and managed to help move all the big stuff. He's still feeling under the weather but did go back to work today.
We are loving are new apartment. It's more space than we've ever had. We plan on staying put.....

Moving Day Approaches
As moving day quickly approaches, Dave has fallen ill with a cold and a fever. He's still going to work, however. The commute - and likely all the germs on the train - is to blame for the illness. He needs rest.
We picked up the keys to the new place today, and we are picking up the UHaul on Sunday. We have to be out of our current place mid-day Monday.
We are both excited, looking forward to getting settled.

It's nearly mid-February?
Another long week here but without the snow that I understand has fallen in Wisconsin. We had a lot of rain and just a pinch of snow last night.
Super Tuesday proved to be a long day for both Dave and I, working longer shifts. Connecticut went for McCain and Obama. Obama was a surprise. Many people thought Hillary, who went to Yale and has high political connections in the state, would take the state's delegates. But Obama made a stop in Hartford, and nearly 15,000 people attended the event. I guess he connected with voters.
Dave and I didn't vote. In the state of Connecticut you have to be a registered member of a party in order to vote. We feel as journalists that we should not be registered members of any party. Party registration is public information, and we feel it could hurt our credibility. This isn't has important now that we are no longer reporters but web producers and editors. But we are still journalists regardless.
We found someone to assume our lease, which is going to save us a good chunk of money. And we are moving....next Sunday, so a week to pack. It's all happening so fast!

It's raining here and cold. It would be better if it were snow. At least that's pretty to look at. My birthday was uneventful. Dave and I both had to work. I had about two hours with Dave on Thursday morning before he had to leave for NYC. We went out for breakfast at Lottie's, a good breakfast joint we just discovered in South Glastonbury. I had the corned beef hash!! Dave sent a dozen red roses to me at work, and he bought me the movie and soundtrack to the 1968 Academy Award Winner Oliver! I sing the songs constantly, and Dave said he wanted to hear what they really sounded like! We plan to celebrate in better fashion this weekend. Dave is working Saturday, but I plan to take the train in a little later, hit a museum and meet up with him for dinner. Not sure where we will go, but I'm hoping for something that offers oysters!
On the moving front, we will be able to pick up the keys to our new place on Feb. 15. That's way earlier than we could ever had hoped for, so we are very excited.
