Dad planned on picking us up at the airport in Chicago, telling Mom that he was going to visit his Mom in Oregon to help move some furniture. (Oregon is about halfway between Platteville and Chicago)
At the last minute, my Mom decided she would accompany my Dad. As Dad neglected to make the usual turn to Oregon, my Mom questioned him, and that's when Dad told her: The Paulsens are coming for your birthday!
So, they drove to O'Hare and found me and my three "towheads" waiting.
We all had a blast. We went sledding and built a snowman. Mom had an open house on her birthday, so many of Mom's coworkers and church family saw the boys. Aunt Sue and Uncle David came up for a visit on my birthday. (The day after Mom's) And Dave and I were able to escape to see a movie. Dave also surprised me with tickets to see the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in March at Carnegie Hall.
