Sam Meets His Great-Grandma Monico & Great-Grandpa Monico

We traveled up to the Berkshires on Sunday to introduce Sam to his great-grandparents. We hope to get a photo soon that includes Dave's mom, so we have that four generational photo.

The Monicos recently sold their home of 30 years and moved into a condo, so we first stopped at the house to show Sam this wonderful home that is full of memories for his dad. (Dave plans to write more about this soon.)

Sam Meets Grandma Barb, Aunt Christina & Cousin McKenzie

Dave's mom, sister and niece came for a visit over the weekend. We've posted photos of that visit and some more good ones at our Picasa site.

Also, Sam weighed in at 11 lbs 4 oz today at the pediatrician. At three weeks, he is growing rapidly! He going to be a big boy! Thankfully, you can't overfeed a breast-fed newborn. :)

Working for the Weekend

I won't say I have a highly fulfilling job. But it's a job I know how to do, and within its narrow parameters, I think I do it well. It may be the first job in my life that has only a limited hold on my thoughts when I'm away from it and doesn't plague me with anxiety and frustration at all hours of the day and night.

Which is to say that I don't take it all that seriously. Thank god!

But I still feel an awful tug of war now that Sam has arrived. For most of my life, I've defined myself by what I did or didn't do for a living. That's been my driving force. Now, I'd much rather be a dad than anything else. So, how awful that I must leave my dad hat on the shelf for much of the day and put on my hard-nosed manager hat.

I never thought having a child could make the workaday world seem so petty. I venture into it out of necessity, but what a joy to return to the real world, back at home!

These days, more than ever, I'm working for the weekend. Though I'll take those late nights and early mornings when I can get 'em, too.

It has been a week already?

Time flies when you aren't getting any sleep?

It's hard to believe that a week ago our little Sam was born! And it has been quite the week.

We are getting the hang of feeding, diaper changes and how to calm a restless, crying baby. Dave and I, obviously, are sleep deprived, but I don't think we'd want it any other way at this point.
