Update

The boys and I are slowly settling into a routine in Platteville, but it has been hard because the boys have not been sleeping well. Jonah has been going through a growth spurt - waking every hour to 90 minutes at night to eat. Sam and Henry have been waking up at various times throughout the night and then getting up super early, sometimes at 5 a.m.

We had the pleasure of hanging out with cousin Ben, his wife, Kira, and her two boys, Ethan and Elliot, on Memorial Day. Susie, Tony, Michael and Vittoria also came to Platteville for some brats on the rainy, dreary day.

On Tuesday, the boys and I traveled up to Prairie to hang out with everyone again. We went to Spook Cave  (the boys, Aunt Susie and I did not go in), Pike's Peak and the Villa Louis.

Four weeks from today, we close on our house. We hope to move in that weekend - June 29-30.

Platteville

We are in Platteville - arrived Friday, May 17. It was a whirlwind trip west after leaving Brooklyn on Wednesday the 15th. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel hired some fabulous movers, who emptied our apartment in under five hours. Sam and Henry were in preschool while the movers were at the apartment. Jonah and I ran some errands and then hung out at preschool. We had a goodbye dinner with good friends that evening, and we spend the night in a hotel with the cat. (Dave smuggled them in.) We started driving west Thursday morning, stopping in Elyria, Ohio, for the night. (Again, smuggling the cats in.)

The boys and I are settling into Papa and Debbie's house while Dave spends the weekdays at his new job in Milwaukee. We hope to close on our new house by the end of June.

Jonah turned 3 months on Saturday. Here is a picture from Sunday when we attended a music festival over at Papa and Debbie's church:

Our house!

Jonah and I flew to Wisconsin on Saturday to do some house hunting with my parents. I had a favorite house I wanted to see, and I thought it'd be it. But it was awful. So, as we starting looking at homes on Sunday, my outlook on this whole thing changed when we came upon the house above. It was the first house I saw Sunday, and I had a feeling it'd be it. We did look at another 8 or so homes, but nothing compared to this one. The big sell was the huge yard, and it's one block from a park.

The house is located in Wauwatosa, which is directly west of Milwaukee. It has a population of around 46,000. Good schools, too. We had also looked in the Shorewood/Whitefish Bay area, but the few homes there in our price range didn't meet our needs.

As of now, we close on the home June 28. We are packing our things now and leaving New York on May 16. The boys and I will stay in Platteville while Dave says in temp housing in Milwaukee. His last day at FoxNews.com is this Thursday! He starts at the MJS on May 20.

New England Trip

Knowing that our time is limited here in the Northeast, we decided to travel north to the Berkshires in Massachusetts on Friday and spend time in Connecticut on Saturday.

We introduced Jonah to his Great-Grandfather Monico on Friday and also spent some time with a friend and her family in Northampton where we went to a park with a small zoo and a fun train ride. We then shared our Wisconsin news with Connecticut friends on Saturday afternoon. It was a whirlwind, bittersweet trip - plus there was all of the horrible news coming out of Boston - but I'm glad we did it.

It's official

After more than 7 years living in the Northeast - nearly 4 of which have been in NYC - we are moving back to the great state of Wisconsin. Dave has accepted a job at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and we plan to relocate in mid-May. This exciting news is bittersweet for us, as we have to say goodbye to so many wonderful friends and goodbye to a city that we have truly fallen in love with. But we know this move is what's best for this family of five, so I say: On, Wisconsin!

The Bronx Zoo

On Saturday the 13th, we visited The Bronx Zoo. It was the first time we went there, and I think it was a great success. The weather was semi-cool and cloudy -- sure beats a hot, humid day or a snowy one.

Highlights include the giraffes, the Reptile House and the bears. Henry was particularly funny on a few occasions. When we saw a sleeping animal, he would yell "Cock-a-doodle-doo." (He does this at home, too, at a sleeping Jonah....) And when we saw three brown bears, he won my heart by saying, "Go, Bears!"
